If 8 years is good enough for the president "why not" 8 years for all federal offices

If you're like me, an unemployed "Joe the Plumber" type, you might have noticed the value of your assets decreasing substantially the past several years. Besides Congress and Judges, another reason "why" is a communication theory called "Hegemony."

A fairly experienced 55 year old UCF college student, I was floored recently when the professor discussed the Hegemony concept. The reason "why" is because average folks identify with power structures, yet, fail to understand how incompetent power continues to exist. Hegemony is the covert power wielded by the officials just becuase that's the way it's historically been done. Hegemony works for Washington, Wall Street, and fat cat Judges, but it works against the people and "Joe the Plumber" types.

The way to break the cycle of government is to apply term limits to all Federal Appointment. Imagine a Congress without Joe Biden, Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Chuck Schumar, Chris Dodd, Barney Franks etc. Even better, imagine a Supreme Court where Justices are seated every eight years instead of for life.

Write, complain, call, email, protest... and do it excessively. Power is the problem in our country today and by implemeting term limits for all Ferderal Appointments, only those that really wish to serve the public will apply.

Jobs for Life

Doesn't it  bother you to know elected officials like Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, John McCain, Chris Dodd, Chuck Shumer and Barney Frank (for examples)  have been regulars on Capitol Hill for decades. I call these associations...good old boys and girls.  No doubt, the culture of corruption in Washington is a product of these long term relationships. Even now, while losing the presidential election, McCain won't call his croonie buddies theives, even though they appear to be and still have jobs when we don't!

Let's not forget the recent crash of the market and sub-prime mortgage debacle. Washington provides the means for people to cheat and there is no shame or punishmnet for cheaters. Does anyone beleive Charlie Rangle didn't know about his investment property that he failed to claim on his taxes? The decline of our culture is a by-product of the "Oldies" in power on Capitol Hill.

Another huge problem are the judicial appointments for life. Give the taxpayers a break!! No-one scores a job for life, except attorneys. And let's be honest too. No matter how old a justice is, he makes mistakes and  harbors personal bias. Why are taxpayers stuck with judges for life when there are plenty of applicants who would glady run for the job? As the old lawyer joke goes, "Why does an attorney become a judge?" ..Because, they can't make it in private practice... not to mention the retirement benefits and perks are huge.

Forget about Obama and McCain, at least there are terms limits for the presidency. However, if you want to keep your real estate and retirement account, vote against incumbents every election until the demand for term limits for all federal appoinments is met.
